Valentine, patron of lovers, we have little information that often mix and mingle with the legend
Among the various theories about the history of Valentine's Day,two are the most reliable. Some argue that  Valentine  was   a Roman who was martyred for refusing to renounce his Christian faith and for trying to help other Christians to flee from the prisons of the Romans, who died on 14 February 269 AD
According to some historical accounts,  Valentine  was a priest of the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius III, who issued a decree forbidding marriage for all young men had to be recruited as soldiers.  Valentine realizes injustice of the decree, in defiance of the emperor, he continued to celebrate the rite of marriage for young couples in secret, until it was discovered by Claudius, who imprisoned him for the challenge.
According to legend,  St. Valentine  left a farewell note to the jailer's daughter whom he had probably fallen in love during his imprisonment, signed "your Valentine" and this letter was the first letter of love in history, popular for signature the couple of centuries to come.
In 496 AD Pope Gelasius stated that February 14 was the day when we celebrate   Valentine's Day  .
Gradually, February 14 became a date where lovers exchange love messages and   St. Valentine  became the patron saint of lovers.February 14 Valentine's Day.
